In this world of doorbell cameras, smartphone videos and social media, it is becoming increasingly clear that the ‘useful idiots’ will hone in on any misinformation given on the door, or any time when a canvasser or even a conversation in the pub gets recorded and spread around on the internet, to be seized on by all and sundry – political parties, troublemakers, etc.
So the golden rule is:

Everyone has a point of view, and everyone is entitled to their point of view. Respect that at all times.
Free Speech
“The right to freedom of speech under the law is the basis of democracy and will be upheld at all times and there is no right to be offended by any lawful expression” Free Speech Union
In these uncertain times, it might be wise to become a member of the Free speech Union .You never know – an innocent remark or conversation can be twisted or taken out of context (Sarah Pochin springs to mind) and to safeguard myself, I became a member. It costs £29.99 a year for older folk, and brings total peace if mind if things do go wrong and you haven’t said anything wrong!

Looking Smart, Feeling Good
Next, we need to present a smart, uniform image when canvassing. Yes, when it is chucking it down, or blowing a gale and you are freezing your backside off, looking good is the last thing on your mind!
We come from all walks of life, and we choose how to dress.
However, with a little tweak here and there, we can all present a united front.
See section on Presenting a Uniform Image
Stay Motivated, Stay Positive
Don’t be negative about the other parties, or their policies. Instead, focus on what Reform is going to achieve for them.
Here’s how to exude positivity on the doorstep.
